The Bradfield Pledges: Bronze, Silver and Gold

At Bradfield School, we believe in developing the whole pupil —academically, personally and socially. Our LORIC Programme is a central part of this vision. It equips pupils with the character traits, habits and skills they need to thrive not only in school, but in life beyond it.

These five characteristics are woven into everyday school life and embedded in a structured, progressive system known as the Bradfield Pledges. Students work through Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, each designed to help them grow in confidence, independence and responsibility.

Every student in KS3 at Bradfield School completes Pledges designed to strengthen the five LORIC traits. Each pledge level—Bronze, Silver and Gold—includes:

  • Five categories (LORIC)
  • Three activities per category
  • Three achievement levels:
    • PASS — complete one activity
    • MERIT — complete two activities
    • DISTINCTION — complete all three activities

Pledge activities include:

  • Taking part in clubs (in and out of school)
  • Leading or planning activities for others
  • Creating revision materials and managing routines
  • Helping peers, staff or the local community
  • Designing posters, writing letters, or teaching a new skill
  • Planning trips, organising events, or improving school life
  • Working towards full attendance
  • Completing problem‑solving or teamwork challenges

As pupils progress from Bronze to Silver and ultimately to Gold, tasks become more complex and reflective, encouraging greater independence and responsibility.

Why LORIC and the Pledges Matter

The LORIC Programme and Pledges help Bradfield students to:

 Build confidence and character

Pupils learn about themselves, develop strengths and recognise areas for growth.

 Strengthen essential life skills

Organisation, communication, leadership and initiative support success in school, careers and relationships.

 Foster resilience and independence

Pupils develop perseverance and problem‑solving abilities that help them face new challenges.

Become active contributors to the school community

Pledges encourage teamwork, kindness, responsibility and positive participation in school life.

 Celebrate achievement and progress

Pupils are recognised for their efforts at each stage, empowering them to set new goals and aim high.

A Journey of Growth

The Pledges are not just a checklist—they are a journey of self‑development. Each step encourages reflection, personal responsibility and ambition. By the end of the programme, students have gained a strong foundation of character, confidence and capability that prepares them for the next stage of their education and future pathways.

At Bradfield School, we are proud of every student who takes on the LORIC challenge and grows through the Pledge Programme. It represents everything we value: aspiration, determination, community and the belief that every young person can succeed.

LORIC Points: Daily recognition for positive choices

Alongside the structured Pledge Programme, Bradfield School reinforces the LORIC values every single day through our LORIC Points system. This ensures that the characteristics of Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Initiative and Communication are recognised, celebrated and encouraged in every lesson, by every member of staff.

How it works

All staff carry a LORIC stamper, allowing them to instantly reward pupils for demonstrating positive behaviours linked to the five characteristics. When a pupil shows resilience in a challenging task, communicates thoughtfully, takes initiative, stays well‑organised or displays strong leadership, they receive a LORIC point stamped directly into their planner.

Why we use LORIC Points

  • Instant recognition motivates pupils and reinforces positive habits.
  • Consistency across the school means all staff acknowledge the same behaviours.
  • Frequent reward opportunities help pupils stay engaged and focussed on personal growth.
  • Visible progress in planners encourages pupils to take pride in their achievements.
  • Links to the Pledge Programme provide a clear, ongoing connection between daily learning and longer‑term character development.

Our LORIC point system creates a culture where effort, kindness, determination and responsibility are noticed and valued. It supports a school environment where positive behaviour is celebrated, and every pupil is encouraged to be their best self—every day.
