Welcome from Anna Hughes, Head of School

Welcome to Bradfield Secondary School. It is a privilege to introduce you to a community that prepares pupils to thrive in a world that is technologically advanced, dynamic, and diverse. We are a school with high aspirations for every young person, and a deep commitment to helping them grow into compassionate, resilient individuals who are organised, proactive, and ready to make a positive impact.

At Bradfield, we want pupils to experience a world rich with adventure and opportunity, while also learning to navigate its challenges with confidence. Our curriculum is broad and deeply rooted in knowledge, and our teachers work hard to foster curiosity, ambition, and a genuine passion for learning. Through inspiring lessons and a supportive environment, pupils are encouraged to think independently, question the world around them, and build strong moral foundations.

We nurture every pupil, whatever their background, ability, or needs. Our aim is to help them become thoughtful, critical thinkers who understand that hard work, determination, and perseverance can lead to lives filled with fulfilment, joy, and wonder. We see school not only as a place of academic development, but as a crucial stage in childhood—a time to explore, to grow, and to discover who they are.

While we guide pupils to face the complexities of the future, we also value and protect the essence of childhood: its curiosity, its excitement, and its sense of possibility. We want every child to look back on their years at Bradfield as a time of personal growth, happiness, and discovery.

A central part of how we support this growth is through our focus on the values: Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Initiative, and Communication (LORIC).

These qualities are woven throughout school life and help shape the character of our pupils, supporting them to become confident young adults who can succeed in whatever path they choose.

Our Values

At Bradfield, LORIC outlines five core characteristics we believe every pupil should strive towards, guiding their growth, learning and contribution to our community.

What is LORIC?

⭐Leadership

Leadership at Bradfield is about integrity, confidence, courage and compassion. Pupils learn how to guide others, make positive choices, and contribute meaningfully to their community. Leadership is developed through experiences such as attending clubs, supporting peers, taking responsibility in lessons, running activities and collaborating on projects. Pupils explore what it means to uplift and empower others, building skills that transfer to school life, future education and employment.

⭐Organisation

Organisation involves far more than keeping track of equipment—it’s about planning, prioritising and taking ownership of learning. Pupils practice skills such as preparing for lessons, managing time, planning events or trips, and ensuring they are ready to learn every day.
Being well‑organised helps pupils feel more confident, reduces stress and improves productivity both inside and outside the classroom.

⭐Resilience

Resilience is the ability to persevere when things get challenging. Pupils learn how to adapt to setbacks, stay focussed, and keep trying even when something feels difficult. Through activities such as taking on new hobbies, improving attendance, or tackling puzzles and problem‑solving tasks, pupils strengthen their ability to bounce back and remain motivated.A resilient learner approaches school life with determination, positivity and self-belief.

⭐Initiative

Initiative is about being proactive—not waiting to be asked but stepping forward when there is an opportunity to help, improve something, or learn something new. Pupils develop independence and problem‑solving skills by offering help to others, suggesting new ideas, exploring future careers, designing improvements to school life or taking responsibility for their own actions. This characteristic promotes confidence, creativity and a drive to make a meaningful impact.

⭐Communication

Good communication is essential in all areas of life. Pupils learn how to express themselves clearly, listen respectfully, and share ideas with purpose and empathy. Through writing tasks, presentations, creative projects, note‑taking, and teaching others new skills, pupils develop multiple forms of communication. These skills help build strong relationships, deepen learning and contribute to a positive, supportive school community.
